QUALITY... Above All Else for over 90 years FAQs

  General
Q.Will you manufacture a prototype lot or do you just do
       large quantity production?

A.We will manufacture one piece or a million. We prefer to work
with designers from the initial concept through production and
frequently manufacture lots from one to five pieces.
Q.How tight a tolerance can you hold on a production basis?
A.This is very dependent on part geometry, material, heat
treatment and plating (when required). This question can
be best answered after a review of the part drawings.
    Q.Do you do assembly work?
A.Yes, very frequently. (Mechanical only, not electrical)
Q.Do you enter into ship-to-stock relationships?
A.Yes. After establishing a good track record with a
customer we frequently enter into this type of agreement.
Q.What is the largest part you can handle? The smallest?
A.We can turn and grind up to a 10" (250mm) diameter.
       We can handle a 24" x 36" (600mm x 900mm) cube in
milling but weight and geometry of the part are important
considerations. We have machined parts under .040" (1mm)
in diameter to very tight tolerances.
    Q.Do you machine carbide? Ceramics?
    A.Sorry. No to both.
Q.May we visit your facility for a quality audit?
    A.Please do. We welcome audits.
Q.What is the maximum capacity of your Swiss type lathes?
    A.20mm (.787") diameter.
Q.What is your typical lead time?
A.This depends on the complexity of the part, outside operations
such as heat treatment or plating, and material availability.
Q.Will you submit a first piece for approval prior to beginning production?
A.Yes, but depending on the complexity of the part there may
       be a charge.
Q.In what format can you accept e-mail drawings?
A.DXF, DWG, IGES, PDF and WMF

  Medical Components
Q.Do you machine the implantable grades of titanium and
       stainless steel?

A.On a regular basis. Our secured material control area has
       been FDA approved.
Q.Can you offer design assistance on medical devices?
A.We can only contribute to the design of a component as it
relates to the manufacturing techniques or the economy of
manufacturing. Insurance liabilities do not allow us to give
       pure design assistance.

  Aerospace Components
Q.Do you do high speed machining?
A.Our facilities (see facilities list) allow us to do high speed
machining when the material and the geometry are suitable.
Q.Do you machine some of the more exotic aerospace alloys?
       Titanium alloys?

A.Over the many years LaVezzi has been manufacturing
precision components, we have machined almost every
alloy. LaVezzi annually spends more on titanium stock than
       all other alloys combined.

  Sprockets
Q.I require some design assistance on a sprocket drive.
       Where do I start?

    A.See our 'Design Assistance Form.'
Q.I know exactly what I need regarding a sprocket but I
am unsure of the tooth form. Can you help me?
A.No problem. Send us what you have and upon receipt of
your order, you will be advised of the proper tooth form.
Q.Do you make chain or timing belt type sprockets?
A.Sorry, no. We can, but you can purchase these much more
       economically through a stocking supplier.

  TRU-POS™ Locators
Q.Why use a locator to determine the location of a threaded
hole? Our current method is cheaper and just fine.

A.Inspection methods must ensure that your parts meet or
exceed specification. Checking the hole location with a
gage pin, a steel ball, a screw with a machined head, or
a probe tip is inaccurate since the pitch diameter is not
referenced as specified in ASME Y14.5M-1994.
Q.If my threaded hole is oversize will the TRU-POS™ function
       properly?

A.Yes! When the locator is seated, the upward force exerted
against the thread flanks causes the locator to position itself
on the centerline of the tapped hole.
Q.Are TRU-POS™ locators difficult to use?
A.No! TRU-POS™ locators are ground .0001" under your go
gauge size for easy finger tight insertion, thereby improving
productivity while eliminating sore fingers. The knurled
surface is placed at the top of the locator which makes it
easier to grip. TRU-POS™ is ground to the base of the locator
providing a more accurate measurement of the tapped hole,
since the CMM probe will be closer to the surface.
Q Why aren't your locators split, like other designs?
A.Material fatigue, excessive installation force, etc., play a
vital role in the repeatability of locating gages. TRU-POS™
were designed to provide a reliable method in which
       repeatability is constant.
Q.Are special sizes or configurations available?
A.Yes! Special sizes and configurations can be manufactured
to meet your unique requirements. Please call or e-mail your
       specifications for a quote.
Q.Are certifications of compliance or calibration available?
A.Yes. Please specify at time of order. TRU-POS™ locators can
also be recalibrated for a nominal service charge.
    Q.We already use locators.Why switch to TRU-POS™?
    A. Extensive availability of sizes
*Unified *Metric *Heli-Coli *Pipe Thread *Tapered
       Immediate Delivery
       Special Configurations Available
       Reliability
       Repeatability
       Improved Productivity
       Better Accuracy

Q.Do you make TRU-POS™ Locators for external threads?
A.Yes, by special order, but please be advised that cost and
       delivery may be prohibitive.
Q.How much oversize can the pitch diameter be?
A.It really depends on the courseness of the thread and can
only be answered on a case by case basis.
    Q.How repeatable are your locators?
A.Tests at LaVezzi and a third party testing lab have proven
that the straight locators are repeatable within .0001" and
the tapered locators are repeatable within .0002".
