Whether all steel or a steel/phenolic combination, the requirement for a smooth running gear is in the blank on which the teeth are machined. Constant monitoring of total face runout,  bore size and parallelism is imperative.  All gears are  100% inspected for tooth-to-tooth and total composite error to ensure compliance with specifications.  To ensure a smooth, burr-free finish, LaVezzi utilizes a unique Radii-Blend process.

The linen based phenolic used in the fabrication of many gears has a proven track record for wear and performance.  LaVezzi employs a unique process by threading both components, bonding them and typically inserting a pin between the hub and gear. This process is far superior to  press-fitting the hub to the phenolic gear, as it  ensures that the gear will not separate from the hub nor cause undue stress to the phenolic.
